Periods 3 & 4 - This is for you!

Since we have been reading about grandparents in our reading classes, you are going to write a poem and make a card for your "abuelo or abuela" for Grandparents' Day in English class. Read the document below for some background on this special day and see the rubric for this assignment.

By the way, if you share a comment here about your grandparent using a literary tool learned in class, you will receive some bonus points for the nine weeks (periods 3 & 4 only). The tools we've learned so far are: simile, metaphor, allusion, alliteration, onomatopoeia.

If you're one of the ones (like me) with no grandparents, you can create your poem and card for a special older person in your life who reminds you of an abuelo...like an aunt or family friend, etc.

I look forward to working on this with you as you honor that special someone.

SMILE!

My grandfather passed away when I was like 3 years old. However, my stepbrother's grandfather is like my grandfather to me. He takes care of me 'like' if he takes care of my brother.

While I was growing up, I had only one grandmother. She lived across the street and visited us frequently. Then one day, BAM, just like that she was gone. I really missed her and wished I was like my friends who had several grandparents. When I married my husband, however, he had three. I felt like I had won the lottery because they were incredible (and still are)!!!! It was then I realized that life renews itself and creates beauty even in loss.

ONOMATOPOEIA - BAM
SIMILE - like the winning the lottery
PERSONIFICATION - life renews and creates

Well sorry for your losses but I'm happy to say that my grandparents are still alive. Even though they are as old as turtles they still get the job done. One day I'm going to hear a BRUUMMMM in my driveway and I'm going to cry and say thanks to my grandparents for geting me the car. I'm going to cry because all they want is to live till they see my brother and I graduate.

Simile: as old as turtles
Onomatopoeia: BRUUMMMM

I have to say I'm blessed to have such wonderful grandparents. I have to laugh at my grandfather sometimes because he is slow like a turtle. My abula an the other hand is like an energizer Bunny, she does not stop. I adore them:)

I am truly graceful for the grandparents I have. Although I haven't been able to see them for about 5 years now, I keep in contact with them, after all they're still family. I remember running around my grandma’s house with all the cousins for Christmas like if it was yesterday. I find her so adorable with her white hair, and crystal blue eyes. She’s the peace maker that enlightens us with joy, like the blowing star on a Christmas tree. Thanks to them I’ve realized there is way more to life than the visible, and that success is screaming my name.

- Love Paula.

My grandparents are amazing. They have been with me my whole entire. I love my abuelito and my abuelita a lot. Zoom they are there for me when I need them. I remember watching home videos of me and they took care of me since I was a baby. They are my guardians like an angel. I love my GRANDPARENTS.
